Session One Joanne Marshall, Dean and Professor, School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will introduce delegates to her research on the aging workforce and its impact on mentoring programs and successful strategic planning.

Session Two Stephen Abram, Vice President, Corporate Development, Micromedia will lead a Panel of New Librarians in a discussion on the unique characteristics of this new generation entering the workforce, their expectations of employers and how their see their careers unfolding. |

Lunch Alvin Schrader, Director of the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta, will discuss the role of library schools in attracting and educating new librarians, archivists and records managers, how the curriculum is preparing students for today's work realities and what skills employers can expect of new graduates. |

Session Five Julia Goodman, Development Officer, Council of Federal Libraries, will discuss how the professions of librarian, archivist and records manager are converging and the implications this has for individual professionals and for organizations competing for skilled workers. |

Session Six Norman Horrocks, Professor Emeritus, Dalhouse University, School of Library and Information Studies, will speak on how to understand and evaluate the educational credentials and experience of those immigrating to Canada and the United States with non-ALA accredited degrees. |

Session Eight Ethel Auster, Professor, University of Toronto Faculty of Information Studies, and Donna Chan, recent graduate of the University of Toronto PhD Programme, will present an overview of their research on the factors influencing participation in professional development and the implications for information management organizations. |

Session Nine Vicki Whitmell, Whitmell & Associates, and host of the conference, will consider practical solutions to staffing through planning, participation and partnerships, and will discuss the role of associations in succession planning. |
