Session One
Joanne Marshall, Dean and Professor, School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will introduce delegates to her research on the aging workforce and its impact on mentoring programs and successful strategic planning.
 
     10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.      Break
 
     11:15 a.m. to 12:00 noon     
Session Two
Stephen Abrams, Vice President, Corporate Development, Micromedia, will discuss the unique characteristics of the new generation entering the workforce.
 
     12:00 noon to 12:30 p.m.      Lunch Break
 
     12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.     
Session Three
Laura Knapp, Lexis Nexis, and a panel of new librarians will discuss their expectations of employers and how their see their careers unfolding.
 
     1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.     
Session Four
William (Bill) Curran, Director of Libraries at Concordia University, will discuss how academic libraries are being affected by a large number of retirees and strategies that are being put into place by institutions and associations.

Session Five
Ian Cullwick, Deloitte and Touche, will speak on developing a succession and retention plan to meet long-term staffing needs.
 
     4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.     
Session Six
Renée Brazille-Jones, President, Unparalleled Inc., will discuss how to leverage and value diversity within information management organizations.

Session Seven
Deborah Defoe (Chief Librarian and CEO of Kingston Frontenac Public Library) and Pierre Morin (Formation Inc.) will demonstrate how the newly released competency profile by the Cultural and Human Resources Council can be used in the development of library long-term staffing strategies.
 
     11:00 a.m to 12:15 noon     
Session Eight
Julia Goodman, Development Officer, Council of Federal Libraries, will discuss how the professions of librarian, archivist and records manager are converging and the implications this has for individual professionals and for organizations competing for skilled workers.

Session Nine
Leslie Weir, Acting Chief Librarian, University of Ottawa, will consider the recruitment of bilingual librarians and U of O’s development of a new library science faculty.
 
     2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.     
Session Ten
Ethel Auster, Professor, University of Toronto Faculty of Information Studies, and Donna Chan, Assistant Profession, University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Information and Media Studies, will present an overview of their research on the factors influencing participation in professional development and the implications for information management organizations.
 
     3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.     
Session Eleven
Vicki Whitmell, Whitmell & Associates, and host of the conference, will lead a discussion on how those in the lirary community can ensure that qualified, trained staff are available to our organizations in the future.
